  • Case Report-Medstudents: Case 08-1997: A 9-year-old boy with easy bruising and disseminated petechiae
  • Presentation of Case
  • A 10-year-old-boy was referred to our institution for evaluation of easy bruising and disseminated petechiae of 10 months' duration. There is no history of fever, cough, chest pain, abdominal or urinary symtoms. Her mother denied allergies or past surgery.

  • Laboratory studies at our institution revealed the following results:
    - hemoglobin=9,6 mg/dL
    - Leukocyte count=3200 with a normal differential
    - reticulocytes=2,1%
    - Platelet count=32000
    - Total bilirubin was 0,3 mg/dL

    Because of anemia, thrombocytopenia and hepatosplenomegaly, a bone marrow aspirate and biopsy were performed.
