Chloroma or Granulocytic Sarcoma?Author: André Mascarenhas Oliveira - Pathology ResidentMayo Clinic, Rochester - USA |
Granulocytic sarcoma is an extramedullary tumor composed by myeloblasts and more differentiated cells, usually associated with acute myeloid leukemia.
Chloroma, an old name for granulocytic sarcoma, is a clinical term. It refers to a subset of granulocytic sarcomas which produce myeloperoxidase, the enzyme responsible for the green color of some of these leukemic tumors.
