The association of Hb S and the hemoglobin of the diseases listed above are called sickle syndromes and there is somewhat less propensity for sickling than in homozygous Hb SS. In general, the anemia is less severe, the vaso-occlusive manifestations resulting from sickling are less frequent and splenomegaly is usually present.
