What are the Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndromes?
Answer
There are three types of Multiple endocrine Neoplasia(MEN).
MEN I (Wermer's syndrome)
Hyperparathyroidism - is present in 90% of cases
Pancreatic tumors - are present in 80% of cases
Pituitary tumors - are present in 65% of cases
MEN II (IIa) (Sipple´s syndrome)
Medullary thyroid carcinoma - occurs in all patients
Pheochromocytomas - are present in 40% of cases
Parathyroid hyperplasia - occurs in 60% of cases
MEN III (IIb)
Multiple neuromatous mucosal nodules
Distorted body habitus
Pheochromocytomas
Medullary thyroid carcinoma
